April Info Tour - Misericordia

Updated: Dec 20, 2024

We headed to Chicago for our April 3rd tour of Misericordia.

Misericordia offers a community of care that maximizes potential for persons with mild to profound  developmental disabilities, many of whom are also physically challenged. Through a spectrum of residential options on its 31-acre Chicago campus and in the community, and with a wide variety of programs, Misericordia currently serves more than 600 children and adults residentially.

On our tour, we were able to visit several different residences:

The Marian Center -- Houses 90 residents in 10 "apartments" with 2 to 3 staff per apartment.

The Rosemary and Connelly Homes -- Serve 16 non-ambulatory adults each with on-site nursing support.

Polk Home -- Part of the Heart of Mercy Village which consists of 9 single family-style homes housing 12 residents each with 24/7 staff support in a 1:6 ratio.

We also had the opportunity to visit several of the day programming and employment options that are available on campus including the HeArt Works art studio, the Hearts & Flour Bakery, Coffee from the Heart coffee packaging, the Greenhouse Inn Restaurant, and Heartstrings Gift Shop.

Thank you to Carlette Corriah-Wynter for planning and facilitating our tour, and to all the families who made the drive in to see everything that Misericordia has to offer.
